Hello Everyone! Welcome to my blog. I am so glad you are here. I believe that everything in life is a journey and I can’t wait to share those with each of you. Over several years I have learned to love whatever journey I am on. But that wasn’t always the case. Let me tell you a little about myself and my family.
My name is Erin, I am a mother of three (almost) grown children and a wife to a South African man. When we first married, I had no idea how real “culture shock” was but I learned very quickly. Growing up in two different parts of the world has made our marriage interesting and fun (to say the least). As a family, we love to travel all over this beautiful world and try new things close to our current home in Alabama. I am originally from the Chicago (Northern Indiana) area and we moved to Alabama a few years ago. This has afforded us the opportunity to travel more (especially to the beach).
Not too long ago, we were forced (in a way) to start a whole different journey when my husband became ill. I had to take a long hard look at our lifestyle and eating habits. This has led to a passion for gardening and all things organic. We also had to take a step back and look into our activity levels, which (if I am honest) were non-existent at the time. This past year has been such a learning experience for me and my family and I would love to share that knowledge with you all.
I started this blog to set focus on the journey life takes us on. When we would travel before, I was the stressed out nervous wreck that you see in those overdone TV shows. Always in a panic about the flight times, finding the hotel, packing enough, and then money. Did we really have the money for this trip? Can we really afford to miss this much work? It was a mess. So much so that I never really enjoyed our trips. No more of that though. I will enjoy each moment of each day no matter what journey I am on.
Destinations have become so important that we can sometimes forget to enjoy the ride. After seeing what was happening to my husband and feeling completely powerless to help, I decided no more stress. I would enjoy every moment I am given even if that moment is with a flat tire on the side of the road. My goal is to not only share with you all the wonderful things a destination has to offer but also the wonderful things during the journey itself. This world offers so many wonderful things to see and eat that don’t always get the attention they deserve.
Having a garden has been a wonderful adventure. Although I started this journey out of necessity, I am loving every minute of it. I have come up with some new recipes to share with you all and have found some amazing ways to make my favorites better. Not to mention the stress reduction factor that a garden brings into your life. We are not vegans or even vegetarians, we are just people trying to eat better and take better care of ourselves on the inside and outside.
Another bonus with all of this is the shopping. Making a healthy switch has caused us to start losing weight so now we need new clothes. I am still a bargain hunter at my core but I would love to show you some of the deals I find on clothing for all the things we do daily. From outfits that travel well to the best deals on new running shoes. I am still learning but I am so proud of the path we are on. Thank you for being a part of my journey.
Are we there yet?
