I was nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! So did not expect this to happen so soon in 2018 but I am honored, to say the least.
I was nominated for this award by the wonderful Linda at Witte;s World, she is a traveling spirit like myself. You should pop over and see some of the wonderful places she has been. Thank you so much for this nomination, it really means the world to me.
Blogger Award Nomination!
As I stated above I am so honored to receive this nomination. I put so much of myself into my blog and it is so nice to see that it is being well received. Last month was a flurry of changes for my blog and the way I am approaching my writing. I have taken a step back and realized that I was putting out so much content, that I would never be able to keep up. Dialing back my output has been a huge help, not just to my family time but also my quality.
This award is so special because of how you are given it. Winning over an audience who is looking for your type of information is much easier than impressing a blogger. LOL Just kidding, we are not too hard to impress.
So what is the Sunshine Award? This is an award for new bloggers from new bloggers.
Here are the Rules for accepting the nomination:
- Thank blogger(s) who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog.
- Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
- Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
- List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.
Here are Linda’s questions for me:
Why did you become a blogger?
I became a blogger because I have always loved to write but I didn’t think it would be a good fit with the traditional writing world. Also, I love to help people and this gives me an outlet to do that in a very non-formal way.
What is the main goal or focus of your website?
The main goal of my website is to provide useful information to people all over the world. Ideally, I would like to make this my “full-time” career but this is something I would do even if I never made a penny. I just love to help and if this is provided for my family at the same time it is a win-win.
When did you launch your website?
My site went live in November 2017. So not that long ago actually. Now that I think about it, it seems like it has been much longer than it has since that scary day just before Thanksgiving.
Picture yourself in the most relaxing place ever…Where are you and what does it look like?
This is a tricky question for me because it can change day by day. Some days I see myself on the beaches in Jamaica with a drink in a coconut and a book in the other hand. Taking in the sounds of the ocean and feeling the breeze on my skin. Watching my dogs run and play in the sand and water while my children swim and soak up all the vitamin D. Then we have the days when I would love to be in my high tunnel out in the wilderness of Alaska. No neighbors for miles, no sounds of anything but the bees helping grow my food. I see my husband building this or that and my children riding horses to get around. Making my own little slice of heaven on Earth, living the way our great grandparents did (just still need internet LOL).
What is your favorite climate?
Again this can depend on the day I am having. Here in Alabama, we rarely get any real cold weather but being from northern Indiana, I can sometimes miss the seasons. If I had to choose one climate for the rest of my days though, it would definitely be tropical. I do love the cool crisp air on an October morning in the fall and the sweet cool breezes that welcome spring back. But if I could only have one it would have to be the warmth of an ocean breeze.
Who is the most important person/people in your life?
My family. I am sure that sound generic or cliche but it is true. I would not be doing what I am doing if it were not for the support and help of my loving husband and three amazing children. They pick up the slack around the house when I am too focused on writing and have even taken to writing some posts for me. My daughter is my fashion queen, she helps me with all my makeup choices and products for personal care that I write about. Then another one helps me with all my editing needs for my videos. Oh and not to mention my husband is my photographer. 90% of the photos on my blog are his work
What’s your favorite healthy meal?
I am afraid I am quite boring here. A salad is probably one of my favorite things to eat. My all-time favorite is a roman and purple cabbage mix with warm grilled chicken. Add some fresh strawberries, blueberries, cucumber, tomatoes, and avocado and I could eat that every day until I can no longer chew my own food. Ok, I may be being a little dramatic but I do really enjoy a good, fresh, organic salad.
Where is the next place you plan to travel?
Right now we are having a toss up between Greece and Scotland. I love everything about Greek mythology and the Mediterranean Islands are too beautiful for words. On the other side, Scotland is full of castles and beauties all its own. I would love to see those castles because I have also studied castles extensively as well. If I am being honest though, it will probably be Greece this time and Scotland next.
Do you like where you are currently living?
The short answer here is not really. We have been in south central Alabama for a couple of years now and I just don’t feel like we fit in. I have said this in a post before, it feels like Alabama is a club that you have to be born into. Everyone here is friendly (for the most part) and the weather isn’t too bad but this just doesn’t feel like home.
What is your favorite place to stay (hotels, motels, all-inclusive, tent camping, RV camping, hostels, a friend’s place, etc…)?
Actually, I really don’t care too much for staying with friends or family. It always seems like you have to be “on” or behave a certain way. That is probably just me though. I do like hotels because they give you some room to spread out and bee yourself. Tent camping is wonderful. As long as you are not around too many other people. I have found that a lot of campers these days, just go out there to get drunk and light things on fire. So of all the options here, I would say tent camping is number one but hotels is a close second.
What is your preferred drink?
If we are taking all day every day then pink lemonade is my drink of choice. But if we are talking alcohol, then it is Irish Creme on the rocks. I found a brand called O’Reily’s and it is so much better than any other creme I have tried. Another good drink is Amarula which, until recently, I thought you could only buy in South Africa.
