Navy Pier has been around for over 100 years now and is named one of Chicago’s most popular landmarks of all time. I try to visit every time I go to the city or even make it to Indiana. I can not count how many times I have been there in the 34 years I lived in Indiana but it is a lot. Below you will discover some of the top reasons I go back again and again.
Navy Pier is a pier
My family is very active in the military and you can catch a frequent view of the US Coast Guard. Not to mention all the other ships that pass by because I love boats. Something about them is so relaxing to watch. Being on the water adds to the experience with views of the city and the open water. I can spend an entire day just watching boats come and go and taking photos of the skylines.
There is so much to do
No matter what you want to do in Chicago, you can do most of it right on Navy Pier. From shopping to reading in the gardens, you will find something fun to do. The ride selection is great and the area restaurants are top notch. You can take a cruise or take in some extra culture at the theater. The choices are all yours and they are nearly endless. I personally go for the rides. I am a self-proclaimed ride-junky.
It is family friendly
While my children are much older now, this was a great way to spend the day when they were small as well. Rides and activities for all ages, including a beer garden for daddy. IMax and a children’s museum add to the family-friendly culture of a day in Chicago. Additionally, they offer unique events for family fun throughout the seasons. Including a Christmas tree lighting and New Year’s Eve fireworks, complete with ice skating.
